Exponential evolution
The Athus Container Terminal, active since 1979 and resulting from the common desire of local entrepreneurs and various players in the transport sector, has seen impressive growth, both with regard to its infrastructures and to its annual container handling capacity.
Some figures bear witness to this :
- 1979: containers handled in a working area of 1.5 hectares
- 1983: the terminal’s surface area increases to 3 hectares
- 1992: it exceeds 6 hectares
- 1999 and 2000 see substantial increases in investment: 60,000 containers are thus handled out of a capacity of 80,000 and the surface area now totals 11 hectares.
- in 2006: following further investments (4 million Euros), the Athus Container Terminal sees its surface area increase again (15 hectares) and its container handling capacity move up to 120,000 containers per year.
Which is why we look to the future with optimism…
